LETTERS TO THE EDITOR;
THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY
The following are extracts from some of the emails sent to
bibtruth.com. They range across the spectrum, from complimentary to
rude and insulting. Enjoy!
I have no doubt in the Mormon religion, so how could you? If
I have felt the spirit, and gotten answers, why would it be
different for you? Sometimes God won't give you the answer
until you are ready for it because it is a test of faith.
I joined the Mormon church last August and am sorry I did.
Nowhere is a cross of our Savior and I do not know who their
God is. This Angel Moroni or whatever is praised more than
the Christ. I think they use Christ when they want and the
Book of Mormon always. I can't say that some things are not
right but I need a church where all things are right and
true.
I am a recovering Mormon who just recently discovered
Christianity and the truth of the Bible. I have been
struggling to shed all of the falsehoods that I was
taught growing up LDS in Salt Lake City, and I just
happened to stumble on your website. I feel like I was
led to your website directly by God! It has been such
an amazing gift to me!!! I thank you from the bottom
of my heart for taking the time to share your faith in
Christ with me through this extraordinary website.
I believe that people leave the [LDS] church when the spirit leaves
them, they start to criticize the leaders, and say evil things of
the Lord's anointed, they almost always are guilty of some serious
transgression, and I see how much anti Mormon things you have at
your fingertips. I read some alarming scriptures about people who
were once enlightened and turn away from the truth, I would not let
that happen to me, I pray you may come back one day to the truth,
as you are fighting a losing battle, and you are trying to justify
your current state by saying you found Jesus.
I just read your beautiful testimony. I am also an ex
Mormon. God bless you ...... Let's keep praying that the
deception of Mormonism falls, and those poor lost sheep
will come to the real Jesus.
Last year your website helped me learn more about my own Church [the LDS].
If you would have prayed true wanting to know and having faith that
God would answer you would have received the answer you looked for
and still can [i.e. that the LDS church is true] ..... Since the
LDS church is flawless you should work at having blind faith.
The Bible in the LDS church is an active part of our religion. We
believe in it where it is correctly translated.
You actually think salvation is that easy??? That is
something you have to earn and work for.
I'm a recent convert to the LDS church. I've been struggling to
understand Mormon doctrines for the past couple of weeks..... I was
supposed to go on my first Temple Trip to perform baptisms for the
dead, but I didn't go on account of my family's firm disapproval.
Since then they challenged me to search for the falsehoods of the
church.
I believe that somewhere in your heart you still believe that the
[LDS] church is true.
Most of the stuff you wrote are lies and the rest is confusion.
Joseph Smith stated that all churches upon the face of the earth
are false, in that they teach false doctrines.
I am in need of advice. Some Mormon missionaries keep appearing
at my back doorstep. I am unsure how to handle them. I am not a
rude person and cannot simply tell them to go away — yet I
want them to stop coming by.
I know the [LDS] church is true and I am glad I don't have the
insecurity that you have. I am glad we have divine guidance
as to the correct interpretation of scripture, or we would
be floundering like the people who are on the message board
with you.
You haven't exposed a false church, you haven't proved it
wrong, I suggest it was too hard to live for you and rather
than changing your own performance you had to discredit it,
to comfort yourself.
Wow, that's all I can really say is wow! ..... Why haven't
I seen this before now?
Listen, I just don't think that it is fair that you have your
little story on the internet to try to break someone else's
faith. And what you said about Joseph Smith well ..... you
must not know much. Because Mormons don't like worship him
and he is not lying! God gave him authority so that we can
act in his name! No other church has that. No other church
has the power to baptize, give priesthood blessings, etc.
I am a Christian, my girlfriend of 6 months is a Mormon and
I don't know how to make her see the truth.
I also would like to ask you how diligent were you in trying
to find the answers to your prayers [for an LDS testimony].
I have found that I must pray over and over until I am
definite that what I am feeling is right and in accordance
to the teachings of the gospel. Just as in schoolwork, you
can't be studying for a math test and expect to memorize
formulas perfectly if you only study it one time. It takes
repetition. The same with prayer and answers. For me, one
time doesn't always do it.
I have friends that are Mormons and my girlfriend used to be
one. I am trying to understand why it hurts her so much when
I tell her all the wrongs in Mormonism.
Thank you so much. I got an email today from her mom
saying that "I agree with you. I agree with every
statement you made, every scripture you interpreted, and
every question you posed! I can't believe I let
myself be so blindly led by the teachings of the
Mormons."
I am sure in heaven that we will know each other... for I
expect that many people will go up to you and say thank
you for making a change in their lives.
I too have found that the LDS Church is at this point, the
blind leading the blind.
Obviously, you are ignorant to the Bible and Book of Mormon.
Let me ask you a personal question ok? What sin did you
commit, that you did not want to take care of? [Note by
editor: Mormons are taught that the only reason folk leave
the LDS church is because they're involved in sin, or else
because they can't live up to the high standards of
Mormonism. In reality the majority leave because they've
discovered that it's a religion of deception. And their
leadership is well aware of this fact.]
I am in need of help and advice.
I don't know if you remember me, but I wrote you about 2
years ago ... I just wanted to let you know how much your
advice meant to me back then, and to let you know that I
am very thankful God brought your wisdom and advice into
my life. I was simply writing to tell you thank you.
I would like to suggest that you find a quiet place,
kneel, and pray. Ask the Lord omnipotent if your website
is helpful to those seeking Him. If it is what you are
supposed to be spending so much time on as a Christian
and as one of His children.
I would like to thank you for sending me the writings. They
got me off to a great understanding of my newness in God. I
know you may not remember me but, we were communicating a
couple of years ago. I was just learning to crawl in Christ.
I wanted to let you know that you were a big help in me
learning to walk in Christ.
I found your web site today and wanted to say how
thankful I am for your ministry .....
I would just like to thank you once again for all you have
given me. Everything has been so helpful. I feel that it
is now time to apply these concepts to my own life.
I know becoming a Mormon is not for me, but what do I
tell these people when they come to my home on Tuesday?
If I don't give them a solid answer on why I don't want
to join their Church, I know they won't give up. Please
help me!!!!!!! I need to know some of the fundamental
differences between Christianity and LDS.
I just want you to know how much I appreciate your
testimony, your ministry, and this website. I too left
the Mormon church having many of the same feeling you
have experienced. I am a Christian, but I live in an area
that is highly populated with Mormons. As a result we have
Mormon friends. I guess my biggest prayer is that I can
provide a foundation for my children so that they never
consider joining or marrying into the Mormon religion.
Websites like yours help give me direction and biblical
guidance to pose clear reasons and explanations for why
the Mormon religion is so misguided. I just wanted to say
thank you.
It is too bad that so many misguided people like you are
trying so hard to tear down the faith and beliefs of
others. Sorry pard, I am Mormon and it is true and correct
doctrine. We are Christians just like any one else. And
for your information the Book of Mormon is a second witness
to the truthfulness of the gospel. They work together as
scripture. The Mormon church has always used the Bible and
always will as long as it is translated correctly.
Praise the Lord for the work you have done. What a great
website and wealth of information with which to combat the
LDS heresy. I was blessed with what I read and would like
approval to make copies of the testimonies/material for
distribution as needed.
I am sorry for your soul and will pray for you but you
truly have a twisted sense of the scriptures.
Thanks for your work, I came out of Mormonism in 1991.
I found your website to be mildly entertaining. I wonder
if you have another one dedicated to the Bible. I also
wonder what religion you have chosen since leaving the
Mormon church. Any response would be great.
I am truly happy to see the great work that you are doing
in bibtruth.com. It is not just another religious site,
but it has become a very sound, thoroughly researched
website for me.
Thanks for a good laugh. Anti-Mormon literature is always
good for a laugh.
I am an inactive [LDS] high priest delaying daily leaving
the church because of what it will do to my
relationships with family and friends. Only recently have
I turned to reading anti-Mormon or non-Mormon literature
but having done so I have been surprised to find that
others have discovered flaws and misrepresentations
that I thought were solely my own. I am
impressed with what I have read of your writings.....
Interesting site. It is filled with mistakes, filled
with lack of proof (when you quote the Bible, which
you seldom do — usually all you quote are ideas that
standard Christians claim are in the Bible but are
not), filled with false declarations of what Mormons
believe, etc.
Your writing was immensely encouraging and God bless
all the work that you are doing!! Thank you so much!
I am not defending Mormons, but your site is so filled
with rubbish it is unbelievable. I can find scriptures
from the Bible itself to disprove every single premise
you present. It is a book filled to the brim with
contradictions, misdirection, even stories where God
tells people to lie, only to learn from the actual story
that God really didn't get it right, and had no clue
what the Pharaoh would do (read the story of Abraham
where he lies to Pharaoh regarding who his wife is; he
lied because God told him to, and because if he told
the truth about who his wife was, Pharaoh would kill
him. [Note by Editor: It isn't the Bible that says
God told Abraham to lie, it's the LDS's scripture,
Pearl of Great Price, Abraham 2:22-24).]
Your site is rubbish. Your doctrines are rubbish.
Your Christ is not even all that great or capable of
doing much of anything. Your understanding of the
Bible is elementary at best, and misguided to the
point of folly. And you condemn others because their
doctrines don't match the Bible! The Gospels can't
even agree on how Christ was crucified, for in them,
he was nailed to a cross, but in Acts he was nailed
to a tree.
You are a fraud, pure and simple. You have no more
understanding of the Bible than the average
non-church-goer and basically non-believer. You know
a smattering of standard Christian babble, and can't
even figure out how that is completely unsupported by
anything in the scriptures. (Note by Editor:
Sections of this extract were omitted due to
profanity.)
I will continue reading your website, thank you for
taking the time to read my messages.... Again, thank
you. I've been looking for a website to help me
search for answers.
I have enjoyed your website so far, and I have a
comment regarding the section on changing skin color.
For a number of years, the [LDS] church had an adoption
program for indian children, and Spencer Kimball stated
that over time, the skin of these children became much
lighter when compared to their Indian parents.
Having read your piece about Ezekiel 37 being
interpreted falsely by the LDS Church, seems a bit of
a stretch for me.
Joseph Smith is spoken of in the Bible. God used Him
to Bring forth the Book of Mormon.
I visited your site and found many truths and many
half, twisted or untruths.
I still don't believe that what you're saying is true.
I know by the spirit that the church I go to [the LDS]
is true and will not turn my back on my Father and Brother.
(Note by Editor: When he says his Brother, he means
Jesus is his literal brother in eternal progression, and
when he says Father, he is confirming that God was his
literal father in a previous existence.)
I just wanted to write to you and thank you so much
for your caring ministry in creating this website,
which seems to be just for me! It is helping me so much
as I transition away from the false teachings of
Mormonism and emerge into the light of Truth. ..... You
will never know how much it has helped in bringing me to
know and understand the true nature of our Lord and
Saviour!!
I was introduced to the church and attracted to the
friendly faces, and their kind and sincere hearts. I
got baptized, not fully believing in the LDS church, God
has blessed me with an investigative brain. Well, for
one, I didn't believe that God had a body of flesh and
bone. I struggled to wrap my mind around the fact that
Jesus walked in America, and then there was the lack of
evidence around this, except for "pray and ask the
Lord if what we said was true."
I've always been a strong believer, when I went to the
LDS church, something was itching inside me, the same
feeling you get before you tell a lie, or any other sin.
Something felt wrong. And then I heard the teachings of
McConkie, and I laughed, and then I heard Hinckley, and
I laughed. I felt relieved to know that God did not
forsake me, although I was blinded by false prophets.
.... I read my Bible to distract me of their lies, to
bring me closure. I was not as "brainwashed" as
you, but it hurts when you find out you have been misled.
I forgive them, like Jesus said... They don't know what
they're doing.
Anyway, I got on the Internet and I searched for
evidence that the LDS church was true, and I cried when
I found those videos, and the others that I am yet to
send. I thought to myself, "I sold my soul to the
Devil, I got baptized in a false church." Now I
have the need to get baptized again, by someone who
knows wrong from right.
And I found your website, thank you for being what you
are and doing what you do.
I recently left the LDS church. I was an active member
for 31 years and I have been under a lot of pressure
from the bishopric and the home teachers to return. I
read your great article on the BOM and it has proven to
me that the LDS church is totally false. I intend to
show the [LDS] home teachers your message and I hope to turn
them away from Mormonism.
Your website is a very good one. I like it. It is very
informative.
I am in need of some serious help! I have been in a Mormon
church for two years..... and for some reason, I have been
utterly convinced of the authority and power of the church,
and I cannot seem to think my way out of it. I believe that
this is all a big lie and conspiracy, but for some reason,
I just can't shake the beliefs and I feel like I am
completely trapped in their version of "God's
truth."
I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to post that
up (Mormonism and Biblical Truth). I got to talking with a
Mormon a few days ago, and was very confused by his somewhat
circular logic (of the fact that he couldn't answer some of
my questions). Your page was helpful in me being able to
logically dispute some of the points he brings up, which I
thought I would have to do hours and hours of research to
achieve.
